As a big fan of Depeche Mode for many years, any new material from any of the present and former members is always interesting news to me. However the new single Kingdom from Dave Gahan's forthcoming solo album Hourglass is so good that I had to blog about it!  
 
Kingdom certainly wouldn't have been out of place on Depeche Mode's last album Playing the Angel. It has that combination of a very pure electronic sound with what sounds like digitally manipulated and distorted live instruments. A smooth texture with barbed wire dragged across it! Absolutely brilliant. I've added a link to the video. I have not heard the full album yet, some people say that Kingdom isn't representative of it, but hey as long as the other tracks are of the same quality, I don't mind if they're in a slightly different style.
