21 Jul 2007 - Midnight Flower

This entry is pretty short, but I wanted to put something up quick to let you know about Midnight Flower. It's the new (and long awaited) solo album from of and (MSG). I won't go into much detail here, since you will be able to find plenty of detail on the Forever Burning profile (linked under Fellow Mojos). However suffice to say that after the first listen it's a thoroughly enjoyable album, which should appeal to MSG as well as fans. It's alternative, yet very accessible. Dedicated to Katharine's baby daughter Ava Sophia and with a heavily pregnant Katharine showing on the cover, this is a deeply personal effort. It blends a number of different genres that Katharine is known for and even has one song that is country-esque ("The Hour When Daylight Dies"), which has got to be a first! MSG fans may be rather shocked to hear that, but trust me, it's done in a way that you can only surrender to - besides this is Katharine's own thing, not MSG.

Okay, so this time it's my first listen of Katharine's new album. In the last episode I'd listened a couple of times to the new album from and promised that I would comment more when I had listened more! I'm a big fan of as a performer, but I haven't got all the albums and I don't know enough to really put the new album into context. However in my uninformed opinion this is a nice album with super smooth production and 2-3 really good tracks, while the rest is okay, but not great. For those of you who, like myself, picked it up for £1.40 with the Mail on Sunday, I can only conclude that it was the bargain of the century - so far!
